Journal January Entry 15: Light
Journal January — Day 15
Prompt: What’s something small that brings you an unreasonable amount of joy?
Morning light.
Not the dramatic kind that floods a room all at once, but the quieter version, the way it slowly settles into a space. The way it hits the walls differently depending on the season. The way it turns ordinary rooms into something softer, almost generous.
There is something deeply reassuring about waking up and noticing the light before anything else. Before notifications. Before responsibilities. Before the day asks anything of me. It feels like a small, private gift — one that arrives whether I’m ready for it or not.
I love how it signals possibility without urgency. The day hasn’t taken shape yet. Nothing has gone wrong. Nothing has needed to be fixed. It’s just light, doing what it always does, reminding me that I’m here and the day has begun.
It sounds small, almost insignificant. But it consistently brings me a sense of calm that feels disproportionate to its simplicity. It resets me. Grounds me. Makes even the busiest days feel slightly more manageable.
Joy doesn’t always announce itself in big ways. Sometimes it’s this — quiet, reliable, and entirely unreasonable in how much it matters.
And honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
